Say What? Cow Photo

Here's a new photo (copyrighted, so don't use it for anything but this exercise) from last weekend. It looks pretty simple, but I wanted to go into some background on it.
I looked a long time for cows in a setting like this. Rural, of course, along the road without a lot of fencing so it was easy to shoot under the electric fence. I find it difficult these days to even find cows. This cow wasn't afraid of me, while others in the herd ran away.
The light was right. I've shot cow photos before on sunny days and the result was a high contrast image where the highlights and lowlights are lost.
On a cloudy day, it's easier to get a shallow depth of field, which I used to blur the background and make her stand out more.
I also took photos of her at eye level with my camera set to continuous shooting so I could catch the right moment, which I think I did. Always try to shoot animals at eye level. It gives a more personal touch. I remembered to use rule of thirds composition.
I converted the photo to black and white in Photoshop. I played with the filters in CS3 and selected the high contrast blue, which really made her eyes stand out. Also in Photoshop, I removed one of the cows from the background using the patch tool. I thiought it was distracting. Anyone want to read more tips like this, let me know. As always, take lots of photos until you think you get it right.
