Purchase Award Received at Lake Mills Art Show

A man came up to my husband yesterday while he was standing outside my booth at the Lake Mills art show and said, people tell me I should sell my photography at art shows. My husband, who has heard this many times before at shows said, sure, but first you have to develop your inventory, print, mat and frame your work, figure out how you're going to display your work, buy a tent, apply to shows and jury into them, pack all your work and move it to the show, set up and hope that people show up to buy it, and the weather cooperates.

He said, I think I'll keep giving them as gifts. We had a good chuckle over that one.

I received a purchase award at the Lake Mills Art Show this weekend. The weather was cool, but no rain. People stayed away in the morning, but the afternoon was busier.

A woman came up to me and wanted to know where I purchased my frames because she wanted to sell her photos at art show too. I said start small. See if you can get into galleries and see what sells first. My approach was a little softer than my husband's blunt response, but it still comes down to this. Selling photography at art shows is not an easy life, but I like it. You have to really want to do it.

In another direction, I was accepted into an art show in Illinois called Lakeview East, which is the biggest show run by Erin Melloy. It is my first show in IL in many years. The show is Sept. 26 & 27 in the neighborhood of Wrigley Field.
